Commemorative Event

St Martin’s College held a commemorative event to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the first publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio in 1623. The event, ably led by Ms Kathleen Vella, Learning Area Leader for English, was attended by students, parents, staff and guests. Recitals of several letters, dedications and eulogies to Shakespeare, and performances from original Shakespearean songs were presented. Prizes were also awarded to the winners of the wonderful exhibits on display which provided a visual representation of the students’ engagement with Shakespeare’s works. During the Shakespearean Tribute our most distinguished guests – from the Department of English, within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malta, Professors Ivan Callus and Maria Frendo, enthralled all in attendance with their inspiring presentations on William Shakespeare.
The event included artefacts and exhibits by Level 10 students which will be visited over the coming weeks by all students at St Martin’s College. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms Bernie Mizzi, College Director who also made available over ten short films (Shakespearean plays adaptations) produced by the college over the past 25 years.
Well done to all for putting together this wonderful event that successfully demonstrates a creative and interactive way of engaging with Shakespeare’s works.
