Beach Clean-Up
The beach clean-up that was recently organised in line with our School Improvement Process (SIP) to inculcate in Level 6 students an awareness of the danger plastics are creating on our shores was a huge success.
Students together with their teachers and key volunteers from Din L-Art Ħelwa Mellieħa visited Armier Bay, Little Armier Bay, White Tower Bay, and Coral Lagoon Bay.
Provided with gloves, pickers, and numerous bags, guided by the organisers, students spent the entire school day along the seashore cleaning the above-mentioned beaches in a thorough manner.
They picked up rubbish lying on the beach, ditches, parking areas and camping sites around the coastal areas of Armier. Amongst the most common were plastic items such as bottles and bags, cans, snack bags, paper, bottle caps, chair and table parts, rope, nets, and shoes. They also used sieves at Little Armier Bay to remove microplastics from the surface sand.
Students were also given a tour of the White Tower which was recently conserved.
The organizers informed us that collectively 270 kilos of rubbish had been collected.
