Sixth Form students visit exhibition

Sixth Form students visit exhibition St Martin’s College Sixth Form students studying Italian at Advanced and Intermediate levels were invited by the Storm Petrel Foundation to visit the exhibition entitled 'The Other Side’. The students were very interested in the various exhibits, particularly the horror film posters and comics. During this event, lecturers from the Department of Italian at the University of Malta presented the various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Italian to our students.

Wildlife Conservation Adventure in South Africa

Wildlife Conservation Adventure in South Africa A group of 11 SMC Sixth Form students are currently on a two-week Wildlife Conservation Adventure in South Africa. The students are accompanied by Ms Rebecca Cassar, teacher of Environmental Science at St Martin’s College Sixth Form. Apart from experiencing wildlife first hand, the students are being trained to conduct wildlife research by professional scientists, organised by Operation Wallacea.

Excellent MATSEC Results

Excellent MATSEC Results CONGRATULATIONS to our Level 13 students for their excellent MATSEC results! And a big THANK YOU to our dedicated teachers for all their hard work, dedication and commitment to our students. Some results are still coming in, but we are very proud to confirm some outstanding results received so far: Biology Advanced:  52.6% of St Martin’s College Sixth Form students achieved Grades A & B whilst NATIONAL percentage is 30.9% Chemistry Advanced: 41% of St Martin’s College Sixth Form students achieved Grades A & B whilst NATIONAL percentage is 29% Pure Mathematics Advanced: 30% of St Martin’s College Sixth Form students achieved Grade A whilst NATIONAL percentage is 7.6% Well done!

SMC Sixth Form School Leaving Ceremony

SMC Sixth Form School Leaving Ceremony St Martin’s College Sixth Form this week celebrated its annual school leaving ceremony, when 91 College students received certificates and special awards. These were presented to the students in the presence of their families and College staff by Professor Alfred J. Vella, Rector of the University of Malta and Ms Bernie Mizzi, Director, Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College. The ceremony marks a very important milestone in the students’ lives just before they move on to tertiary education. Mr Anthony Abela, Senior Leader Sixth Form, explained how St Martin’s College strives to provide the best possible learning opportunities for all its students. The combination of tailored attention that each student receives, the support received from parents as well as the hard work students put in to achieve their goals, ensures success.

Politics and Democracy Talk

Politics and Democracy Talk Dr Frank Psaila recently delivered a talk to all Level 12 students at St Martin’s College Sixth Form, as part of the Systems of Knowledge module relating to politics and democracy. Dr Psaila spoke about the life of a politician and the significance of the EU for Malta and for the younger generations. He also answered a number of valid questions put to him by the students who also debated with him voting at 16.

Mock job interviews for Sixth Form students

Mock job interviews for Sixth Form students Four members of staff of PwC Malta recently conducted mock job interviews for St Martin’s College Sixth Form students. The aim of these interviews is to help students experience a real-life job interview and help them prepare for the world of work. Students attended a preparatory meeting and were asked to present their CVs and covering letters during the mock interview itself. Individual feedback will be provided to the students during the follow-up session which will be held next week.  St Martin’s College Sixth Form is committed to developing the skills that young people require for the modern workplace. This exercise, organised by Ms Eleanor Abela, the College’s Career Adviser, helps our students build the confidence they need in an interview situation. Sixth Form students visit Alf Mizzi & Sons (Marketing) Group A group of first-year students studying Marketing at Advanced Level at St Martin’s College Sixth Form, visited Alf Mizzi & Sons (Marketing) Group. After touring the various warehouses and departments, the students were briefed about marketing techniques and strategies. It was a very informative visit particularly because the students cover topics such as branding, distribution, logistics and intermediaries as part of their preparations for the Marketing MATSEC examination.
