CHS Bumble Bees - Inspirational Learning Area

Scholastic Year 2015 - 2016

This summer was a thrilling time for us at Chiswick House School, as we planned for our Bumble Bees learning, social and emotional well-being in our new and vibrant Bumble Bee area. The ratio system is of 1 carer to 6 children, same as in previous years, the only significant difference is that the new Bumble Bee environment is split into designated areas during which pupils in small groups of 12, experience learning opportunities in a specific area on a rotation system.

We do know that children associate learning to specific contexts and it is for this reason that we have spent time designing a learning environment to suit our little ones’ learning needs. The six learning areas are welcoming to children, they each provide materials that encourage different types of play and exploration, as they present learning opportunities specific to Communication Language and Literacy, Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy, Creative Development, Personal and Social Emotional Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Physical Development.

Each of these six learning stations offer a clear and understandable message about what is going to take place. Lesson plans are drawn up according to each learning station ensuring that we are offering learning opportunities which enhance each aspect of learning. Young children learn best by experimenting with their environment through hands on activities and play, which is why learning stations are a vital part of the preschool classroom. Through these learning stations children are given the opportunity to cultivate ideas and to classify their learning, they are provided with a space to preserve and organise their learning and a chance to share their exciting discoveries with their peers and care-givers.
