A Priceless Experience for Budding Medicine Student

A Priceless Experience for Budding Medicine Student During the summer months, Hannah Ciantar, Level 11 student at St Martin’s College, attended a 2-week course on the introduction to Medicine, held at Oxford University. Whilst living on campus, she attended daily classes including a first aid course organised by Child Matters UK in which students learnt how to be first responders. The course was also composed of a detailed explanation of the main organ systems in health and disease. Students were also taught how to log a patient’s medical history and carry out simple procedures. A few words from Hannah ‘I can say that I gained excellent knowledge about what it is like to study medicine and work in the medical field. I am aware that there is a lot more to it, but I hope that these are my first steps towards an amazing career.’ Well done Hannah. We wish you the very best of luck in your future studies!

Pupil Incentive Programmes

Pupil Incentive Programmes This scholastic year, two pupil incentive programmes have been well supported within our CHS community whereby teamwork and collaboration were of essence across the Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 classes. The ‘Helping Hands Points Reward’ focused on a point system whereby the children were given class points for supporting the school rules, being responsible and respectful towards oneself and others as well as sharing and caring for the school community. The ‘Button-a-Book’ incentive in Level 3, 4, and 5 focused on challenging pupils to take more of an interest in reading. Pupils kept a reading log of all the books they read throughout the year. For every book read, pupils were rewarded buttons for their class. These initiatives have given the children the opportunity to value the relevance and importance of reading and respect within the school community. As a reward for supporting these initiatives, the classes who achieved the most buttons and points were treated to a special outing to a hands-on pottery activity. A big well done to all! Collaboration, teamwork, commitment and respect are values that are integral within our CHS community.
