Friendly Competition organised by SMC Student Council

Friendly Competition organised by SMC Student Council The Foodbank Lifeline Foundation made an urgent appeal for large, reusable, sturdy shopping bags and our students responded fantastically. The student council tied this initiative with a friendly competition. Levels were pitted against each other to donate the highest number of bags. After a lively bag counting session, carried out by senior school student council representatives and volunteers, level 6 were confirmed winners and were awarded a casual day. St Martin's College collected a total of 418 bags for this great cause. Well done to all.

Outdoor Learning Experience

Outdoor Learning Experience The outdoor learning experience at Girgenti Farm provided the Level 10 students with the opportunity to carry out a biology fieldwork session in a peaceful environment teeming with local flora and fauna. The classes pitted their wit against each other as they debated the effects of social media on the communication skills of the young, further enhancing the discursive and formal writing skills covered in the Maltese and English lessons. A quiz tested how knowledgeable students are about the world around them, with questions focusing on general knowledge or pop culture. It was then time for students to let their hair down as they took part in water games organised by their PE teachers. What a wonderful opportunity to transpose and apply learning to tasks belonging to the outside world.

They practiced problem-solving, reasoning and numeracy. Creating various shapes using sticks that they found and then looked at their properties; number of sides and angles. They observed where the wind was coming from through flying bubbles. Yoga and meditation under the trees helped them relax and improve their poses. A great hands-on learning experience!
