NASA and Space Exploration Talk
NASA and Space Exploration Talk A speaker from the American Embassy, Mr Christopher Julius, visited us at Chiswick House School to talk to our Level 5s about NASA and space exploration. As part of our first theme, Our Wonderful World, our Level 5 pupils are currently learning about the solar system.Trip to Poland
Trip to Poland A group of Level 9 students will be visiting Poland as part of an Erasmus Sports Trip funded by the EU. During this trip, students will be observing classes and participating in Sports Activities organised by the Polish School in Białobrzegi. They will also be visiting a number of cultural sites. This is a great opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in a different cultural context while also appreciating the diverse activities being offered by the Physical Education Programme at the Polish school being visited.Dream Green Team
Garden Green Team Over 40 Level 5 pupils have signed up to join our Dream Green Team at Chiswick House School. This initiative is open to Level 5 pupils who want to take part in outdoor activities that include beautifying the outdoor environment, growing vegetables and herbs, and learning about the land, food and healthy eating. So far, we have planted leeks and many scientific principles have already been understood. Tomorrow we will water our produce and on Monday we will plant herbs. Sustainability and the environment are hot topics and all our equipment is made out of recycled material. A generous donation from parents has allowed us to acquire new books on plants, gardening and sustainability. Thank you!International Day of the Girl
International Day of the Girl St Martin’s College Sixth Form commemorated International Day of the Girl by hosting a speed mentoring and networking event. Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, visited the College during the event and briefly mentored some of our students. The workshop was designed to allow our students to meet and gain valuable information from different alumni and professional women in a fun and fast-paced, yet relaxed environment. Students conversed with mentors for 5-minute sessions until they were prompted to move on to the next mentor. During this time our students had the opportunity to discuss their career plans and goals and interact with motivational, leading and successful women in different fields. They were provided with guidance, insight and inspiration, as well as the confidence and tools they need to examine personal and potential connections. The United Nations declared the 11th of October as the International Day of Girls to support more opportunities for girls and to highlight the inequalities that girls still face around the world. Special attention is paid to promote girls’ empowerment and to the fulfilment of their human rights. This year’s theme focuses on expanding existing learning opportunities and calling on the global community to rethink the preparation needed for girls to successfully transition into the world of work. The speed mentoring and networking event was chosen to reflect this theme. Both male and female students actively participated in the event since each one will move on to careers and positions that will enable them to support human rights of all people, everywhere and make changes to improve the lives of others.SMC Sixth Form Ice Breaking Day
SMC Sixth Form Ice Breaking Day A group of over ninety first-year students attending St Martin’s College Sixth Form, participated in an 'Ice Breaking Day' which was organised to welcome the new students who hailed from various local and foreign schools. The event consisted of team-building activities which were held at Mistra Bay, during which the students had the opportunity to get to know each other better before starting their formal lectures. Besides a number of activities which kept students engaged in their teams, the main task of the day was for each team to build a raft from barrels, wooden posts and rope. The students launched the rafts and nervously tested their sea-worthiness. After an eventful morning, which included a short downpour, all the students enjoyed a pasta buffet in Mellieha to round off the day’s activities.
This week we welcomed back our teaching staff who have commenced the beginning of the scholastic year with four days of professional learning during which the main focal points of this year’s School Improvement Process were discussed. After four days of intense training, the week concluded on a high with some team building activities. We thank our academic and administrative staff who have had a busy summer gearing up for the new scholastic year and we look forward to welcoming our learners to an energizing and fruitful year ahead!
